ABOUT
Ian Thomson is a photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. His work documents the socio-economic contrasts and human narratives embedded within the Western Cape.
His practice is informed by a background in community operations and non-profit development. This experience grounds his visual approach in the realities of social disparity and restoration. His current long-form project, Alternate View, explores the structural and visual dichotomies present in Cape Town’s residential and public spaces.
Stylistically, Thomson utilizes chiaroscuro techniques to isolate subjects, referencing the visual language of Sander Vos. He aims to construct a photographic narrative that examines the intersection of environment, theology, and the human condition.
